Science Forum
Coordinator: Dr.Lajna P Vijayan

Science forum has been formed with the main intention to inculcate scientific awareness in students and thereby making science learning interesting for them.
The executive committee of the ‘Science Forum’ comprises of convener as the president, a secretary (from the students) and two members (from the teaching staff). The number of students who can register in the forum is restricted to 50. It organises seminars, quiz (science) - competitions.

Report of the Year 2016-2017
Career Guidance Cell and Science Club jointly coordinated a Curtain Raiser Programme at D B College Thalayolaparambu on 16th January 2017 for the commencement of 29th Kerala Science Congress. The programme was inaugurated by Dr B PadmanabhaPillai, Principal, D B College Thalayolaparambu. Dr C Arunan, Principal Scientist, KSCSTE gave a brief introduction about KSCSTE and the Highlights of Kerala Science Congress. Prof JayachandranK , School of Chemical Science delivered a lecture on the topic “Solid Waste Management”.
Conducted an industry visit, to Hindustan News print Limited, Vellore on 11/03/2017, which is one of the most prestigious industries in college locality. A team of 35 students participated in the programme. The visit provided students, an opportunity to understand various manufacturing stages of newspaper, the associated functional systems and the working procedure.

Nature Club
The "Nature Club" functions very actively in this college. As part of the activity of the club different trees and plants are taken care of. The D. B. College Nature Club consists of a dedicated group of students who embodies passion for and devotion to Mother Nature and Her creations. The members are very energetic and vigorous for cleaning our campus.
Objectives
• To create awareness about environment.
• To promote interest and knowledge about environment around us.
• To provide opportunities to acquire attitudes, values and skills needed to protect and improve the natural environment.
Regular activities
• Nature and Natural resource Awareness programs, Talks, cleaning programmes.

Report of Nature Club activities -2016-2017
The inauguration of the activities of Nature Club conducted on June 5th, World environmental day. The club members celebrated the day by planting different trees. Also we celebrated ozone day by conducting an awareness programme on ozone depletion. On February second (world wetland day) the club organized a talk by Shri. P. Ajay, Executive member of Kottayam Nature Society. The topic was” The Philosophy of Nature.” 63 members actively attended the function.
The activities of this academic year ended on 31st march.
Career Guidance Cell
A Career Guidance Cell has been functioning in the college since 1996. This cell gives Guidance for the all round development and provides information on course & careers. It also organizes several competitive exam training programmes and workshops for students.
Activity Report 2016-17
The career and guidance club of D.B college Thalayolaparambu is functioning with the motive to provide orientation to students to find a suitable profession in future. Also the club act as a nodal centre to communicate recruitment calls from private and public sectors. In the academic year 2016-2017 the club organised
a) Career guidance classes.
Selected one hundred and eleven students participated in the programme. Jacob Mathew of Guiders Education lead the classes.
b) Off centre recruitment drive
Various off Centre recruiters approached the career guidance club to recruit fresh graduate holders for MNC jobs and training. With the prior permission of interested students C&G club supported Modona Placement to conducted the off campus recruitment drive.
c) Provide awareness among students about All India Asian Education Foundation training programme for skill development.
This is an empowerment scheme for financially backward students to get trained in various short term courses with the support of Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India.
d) Jointly with Employment centre of Kottayam conduct an informative section in every classes to encourage the students in employment exchange registration and explore the opportunities provided by the Employment centres across kerala.
e) Enrollment of students in National Digital Literacy Mission (NDLM) or Digital Saksharata Abhiyan- More than 300 students were enrolled their training and exams are in due.
f) An in depth information about short term computer courses that can be pursued along with the bachelor degree, it scope added advantage in Kerala PSC exams etc through the KELTRON centres Kottayam.
g) Carrier guidance club also supported the EDUEXPO organised by Microtech from January 09-19 2017 at Mamenmapillai Hall Kottayam.
Bio Diversity Club

ACTIVITIES
1. Biodiversity Club organised World En- vironment Day Celebrations on the 6th and 7th of June 2016. Planting of fruit trees in the Shantistall and also in the college premises was done on June 6th. Distribution of Curry leaves seedlings to students and all staff members was done on the same day.
2. A talk on Wetland flora of Vaikom and its Conservation by Prof P. Sreekumari, Former HOD of the Department was organized on the 7th of June that motivated the students on the need for conser- vation of wetlands.
3. Preparation and distribution of our tra- ditional ‘Karkidaka Kanji’ was a novel practice done taken up by the members of by Biodiversity Club. This was con- ducted on the 4th of August 2016.
4. Exhibition cum sale of our locally avail- able Medicinal plants and seedlings was also carried out on the same day.
Campus theatre and Film Club
Coordinator:Dr. S Lalimol
The film and theater club was inaugurated by the entire team of the children’s movie Kolumittai. Master Gaurav, the child artist and the director Sri Arun Viswam spoke on the occasion. The woman music director sang the songs of the film along with the lead singer. The film and theater club had the movie buffs enthralled by showing classic movies. Heated discussions ensued each showing.
Quiz Club

The Quiz club nurtures the needs of students with high potential and I.Q. and trains them to be competent in the battle of wits.
Music Club
Coordinator:Dr Maya P Nair
The college has a wellfunctioning music club. Talented students are been selected and given ample opportunity to put out their best performance.
Tourism Club

The Tourism Club of our college started functioning in the year 2002 with the motto “Spreading the Spirit of Tourism”. The club organizes seminars, group discussions, tourism quiz, trekking, hiking, identification of tourist spots etc. for the members of the club with the help of tourism department. Tourism camps, study tours and other state level programmes are arranged for selected members of the Tourism Clubs. The membership is limited to 60 students as directed by the Department. REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2016-17
The Club started its activities for the year 2016-17 by celebrating World Environment Day on June 6th. An awareness class on “Environment conservation – the need of the Hour” was conducted by coordinator, Dr. Remalakshmy Poduval.
This year two major initiatives were taken up by BMC
Rain Water Harveting
On July 3rd, the club observed “Anti Plastics Day” by clearing a pit located in the campus. The BMC representatives decided to maintain this pit for rain water harvesting. By this initiative, water could be stored and also diverted to artificial recharge system.
Solid Waste Management
With the slogan “Charity begins at Home”, the BMC representatives spread awareness among the students of the college on the need for solid waste management. They demon- strated to the students how to segregate green and plastic wastes. The representatives had an opportunity to visit Mr. K.V. Deyal home where he demonstrated a unique way of converting food wastes to organic manure.
Two bio compost units were set up at the college premises to manage the food waste.
