of the Department |
Our
Department was established in the
year 1965.Prof. V.R.DamodaraKaimal
was the first Head of our Department.
In the beginning, our Department offered
only Pre-Degree courses. In the year
1980, BSc. Degree course in Physics
was started. This year i.e. 2007,
our Department is presenting the 25th
U.G batch at the university Examinations. |
In
1995, Our Department became a Post
-graduate Department. MSc Degree course
was introduced in our Department. |

Prof.K.K.Indiravallabhan
was the Head of the Department at that time.Our
department has been consistently producing good
results at the University Examinations. Three
of our faculty members are engaged in research
work, training publications in reputed Journals.

- Our Department laboratory is open to school
students. They are invited to visit our Department
and allowed to use our facilities on request.
- The school students use our facilities to
do their projects and experiments included in
their syllabus.
- The Students interact with the teachers of
our Department to clear their doubts.

| Results |
- Each year nearly 90% of our BSc students pass
in university examinations.
- Most of them secure first class marks.
- In 1989, our student, Kum.Jayarani bagged
Second rank in the BSc Degree Examination of
the M.G University.
- At the P.G. level also we have been performing
consistently with most of the students getting
First class marks.

| Extension
Activities Done. |

As the part of the extension
activities of our College, the Physics Department
conducted a five day program for the benefit
of the High School students, from 20-11-2006
to 24-11-2006. The program was called "We
open the Windows of Wisdom",
code named WWW.
-
Our Department on 9-12-2006,
held a one-day Inter- Collegiate Seminar in
our College which was inaugurated by Dr.V.P.N.Nampoori,
Director, International School of Photonics,
CochinUniversity Of Science and Technology.

Extension Activities. |
- Exhibition cum lecture classes for school
students.
- Inter -Collegiate Lecture series for the Post
Graduate students.
- Star Gazing camp and workshop on making Telescope.
- Conduct programs in co-ordination with the
Science Club and with the Physics Association.

| Alumni
and their activities. |
Alumni
Association conducted a meeting to honour the
retired teachers of our Department, called "Guruvandanam".
At the meeting, the members suggested Several
programmes for the benefit of economically backward
students. The teachers agreed to associate with
the Alumni to raise funds for this purpose. At
the meeting it was decided to award cash prizes
to students scoring highest marks at Bsc and MSc
examinations. |
