of the Department |
Department
of Malayalam started functioning in
the year 1972 with the B. A.Degree
course, with a staff strength of 9
members on the faculty. The department
functioned under the able guidance
of Prof. K. V. Vishnu Namboothiri.
The students strength was around 60. |
The
department was elevated to post graduate
department in the year 1998. Eminent
teachers like Prof. Mampuzha Appukuttan,
Prof. Gopinatha Pillai, Prof. Rethi
Appukuttan, Prof. P. D. Sasidharan,
Dr. V. K. Narayana Kaimal etc |

adorned this
department. The deparment used to organize seminars,
workshops, lectures and other cultural programmes
relating to theatre, performing arts etc. frequently. |
The department
is possessed with a very good library having a
collection of around 7000 books including reference
books and journals. The books in the general library
are also available for the students. |
| Departmental
Activities |
Every
year this department with the active participation
of the student of all departments conducts Onam
celebration, Ramayana Masacharanam, Basheer Anusmaranam
(July 5th ), Vayalar Anusmaranam (October 27th),
Kerala Piravi etc with verity programs.
All teachers in the department are accessible
to students from 9.30 AM to 4.30 PM for providing
proper guidance, counseling at difficult situations
and doubt clearance.

Activity |
To induce and
to spread reading habits in rural people, the
department with the cooperation of the students
introduced a movement named “Books to Village” |

The department
consistently produces a very good results every
year in B.A and M.A classes with good number of
first class. |
