History of the Department
The department was established as degree department in 1979 with Dr. P.K.Saraswathy Amma as the H.O.D. Subsequently it was upgraded as a Post Graduate department in 1999 with Prof. Hariharan Pillai as H.O.D. with an intake of 12 students per batch at M.Sc. level. The department received the post graduate assistance from UGC and has been maintaining a very good library with about 2000 volumes of books covering frontier areas in the discipline. We have well equipped laboratories for physical, inorganic and
organic branches. The department has been maintaining a consistently good record in giving instructions at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Faculty members, in addition to their regular work are actively engaged in various extension activities conducted by the institution. Some of the faculty members are actively engaged in research activities evidenced by their publications in National and International journals of repute apart from authorship in International and American Patents. Some of the faculty members are resource persons for advanced topics and extension activities.
Courses offered B.Sc. Chemistry ( 3 year degree course) with Physics and mathematics as subsidiary subjects.
